The Jamaica Bay Institute (JBI) was initially funded in fiscal year 2002 by the Natural Resource Challenge and is hosted by the Jamaica Bay Unit of Oateway National Recreation Area (NRA) in New York City. JBI is staffed by a Director/Research Coordinator (OS-12, permanent), Biological Teclmician (OS- 5, 2 year term) and an Education Coordinator (OS-II, 4 year term) hired in January 2007. In addition, Jamaica Bay Unit staff contributes to the JBI program by providing general maintenance, administrative and technological support.
