Exploratory pollen analysis of two cores from the British Old Woods, Saratoga National Historical Park

Kelso GK. Exploratory pollen analysis of two cores from the British Old Woods, Saratoga National Historical Park. National Park Service, Division of Cultural Resources. Boston, MA

This pollen investigation constitutes a feasibility study for the palynological investigation of historical vegetation in the park in general and an evaluation of the archeological potential of the British Old Woods. This report addresses the following four specific technical objectives; ascertain whether a palynological vegetation record can be obtained from terrestrial deposits in the British Woods, ascertain whether the vegetation of the British Woods has been perceptibly altered during the Euroamerican era, ascertain whether the matrices themselves have been disrupted during the Euroamerican era, and establish a relative date for the surface under Snow's (1977) linear mound in comparison to the pollen spectra of soil profiles in the area.
