Land Protection Plan for Morristown NHP

Morristown National Historical Park

The purpose of this plan is to identify the means and priorities to protect the natural, scenic, and cultural resources of the park and to provide for public use, while at the same time protecting the park from significant adverse impacts originating on non-Federal land in or adjacent to the park. This plan was developed in response to the 1982 Department of the Interior policy on use of the Federal portion of the Land and Water Conservation Fund and also because the Park has in recent years acquired lands to maintain or increase protection of its historicallysignificant resources. At Morristown National Historical Park, overall management objectives emphasize the perpetuation of a physical scene and environment reflecting that present when General George Washington and the Continental Army arrived to begin their encampment. Resource protection objectives are directed towards minimizing land use changes which depart from present conditions as to erode the historical essence of each unit. There are four units: Washington's Headquarters, Fort Nonsense, Jockey Hollow, and New Jersey Brigade. There is a description of the lands, zoning, and boundaries and recommendations about future land acquisitions. Several maps are included.
