Concern about the impact of large deer populations on the vegetation at Morristown National Historic Park prompted the establishment of 5 deer exclosures in 1987-1988. A gross estimate of the impact of herbivory can be made by observing if the vegetatoin in these exclosures changes over time differently from that in similar areas that are accessible to the deer. This system of exclosures therefore tests the null hypotheseis that excluding deer will have no effect on the vegetation within the exclosure.
