Recommendation for Land Management - Jockey Hollow Area - Morristown National Historical Park

This report has two aims: 1) to analyze the role of the forest in the context of preservation and interpretation; and 2) to make recommendations for managing the forest to play this role, within the larger context of overall National Park Management policies for cultural and natural resources. It specifically addresses 4 objectives: 1) Apportionment of the park into several zones or areas depending on the relative importance of cultural and natural resources. In those areas of primarily cultural importance, management will continue to focus on cultural goals. 2) Proposing management goals for those sites where there are known, • undeveloped archeological remains, considering possible conflicts between management of the natural resources and protection of the archeological sites. 3) Proposing management goals for natural resources within those areas where there is little or no evidence of remains related to the • winter encampments or little is known about any relationship to the encampments, other than as a source of natural resources. 4). Proposing and recommending management options, including research, based on the management goals. This report will focus on the Jockey Hollow area, but results are applicable to the New Jersey Brigade area also. References to "the park" will therefore apply only to these two areas. They will not apply to the Fort Nonsense or Ford Mansion sections of the park.
