In this article, the following hypothesis was tested: density of L. filiformis is highest in areas of shallow soil, where interspecific competition is presumably low, in contrast to J. virginiana- and hardwood-dominated forests, open habitats are correlated with relatively shallow soil depths and high insolation, and removal of J. virginiana increases L. filiformis abundance.
