A Website and Data Server for the National Park Service Northeast Temperate Network Inventory and Monitoring Program - Funding_2

The Northeast Temperate Network (NETN) Inventory and Monitoring Program of the National Park Service needs a website to be developed that: 1. Provides information on the program to various stakeholders and to the public; 2. Provides public access to various reports being developed by project participants; 3. Provides public access to datasets being produced by program participants; 4. Provides intranet access to reports and data to internal program participants. Once the website is developed and made "live", the program has the need for regular maintenance and support of the live website, as well as development of new website features as the program moves along through its various phases. This proposal is to extend the collaboration between the NPS NETN office and the Department of Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (Dr. Charles Schweik, Principal Investigator) in the continued development and maintenance of the NETN website. Since the initial CESU agreement was established, the UMass participants have developed an initial NETN Inventory and Monitoring Program (NETN l&M) website which is now in production at http://wwwl .nature .nps. ov/im/units/netn/. Major components include: 1. Home page with dynamic news feature (news is dynamically listed from a database instead of being statically placed in the web HTML code) 2. Intranet task management system for NETN I&M program officers to set up project management tasks with collaborators 3. Administrator system for NETN I&M program officers to add/delete/modify news items and also to manage web-based task management system The proposed extension to the project will be to maintain the existing system and continue to add new functionality as requested by the NETN I&M program office. Major new components will include revised "data" and "reports" components of the site, probably based upon the dynamic page model where the data and reports are contained within a database to make it easier for the end users of the site to search for information.
