The Natural Sounds Program received a request to collect baseline acoustical data in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (ORPI) prior to the construction of several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Rapid Deployment Towers (RDT) that will be located on or adjacent to ORPI. Towers in remote areas will be powered using solar photovoltaic energy sources but will also have backup generators. In order to estimate the noise impacts of operating the RDTs and Border Patrol activities, baseline data from ORPI and additional data on the RDT generators were needed.
