Muir Woods National Monument Acoustic Monitoring Report: Summer 2005 and Winter 2006
Formichella C, Fristrup K, Joyce D, Lynch E, Pilcher E. Muir Woods National Monument Acoustic Monitoring Report: Summer 2005 and Winter 2006. National Park Service. Fort Collins, Colorado
Muir Woods National Monument is currently revising its General Management Plan (GMP) and will use the results of this study to help visitors hear and appreciate the natural sounds of a redwood forest. Furthermore, the results of audibility analysis will show park managers the level, nature, and origin of natural and inappropriate sounds as they vary by season. In addition, the recordings will serve as permanent documentation of what Muir Woods sounded like in 2005 and 2006. The acoustic and sound pressure level data collection procedures in this pilot study are guided by the National Park Service Natural Sounds Program’s standards. The purpose of this report is to compare results from the summer 2005 and winter 2006 monitoring seasons.
