The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park has initiated a cooperative program with the University of Vermont, School of Natural Resources, establishing a long-term forest ecosystem monitoring system within the forested portion of the 550 acre (223 hectare) Park. The monitoring program consists of annual field data collection using a system of permanent plots distributed throughout the Park. Data are analyzed at the University of Vermont and archived both there and at the Park. This report presents preliminary results of analyses using data collected in summer 2001 during the first year of the program. Future annual reports will present data from subsequent years.
