This final report presents the results of almost 5 years of research conducted by the University of West Florida and Texas A&M University for the Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS). The research was initiated by the National Park Service following extensive barrier island washover and erosion during Hurricanes Ivan (2004) and Katrina (2006). The broad objective of the study is to characterize the geologic framework of the Gulf Islands National Seashore with a primary focus on the Santa Rosa and Fort Pickens Units of the park.
