Impacts of Visitor Spending on the Local Economy: Denali National Park and Preserve, 2008
Stynes DJ and Ackerman A. 2010. Impacts of Visitor Spending on the Local Economy: Denali National Park and Preserve, 2008. National Park Service; Michigan State University. East Lansing, Michigan
Visitor spending and local economic impacts are estimated for Denali National Park and Preserve (Denali NPP) for 2008 using the Money Generation Model (MGM2). Spending and visit estimates are made by triangulating across several sources including NPS public use statistics, local room taxes and employment data, as well as published rates for rooms, tours, car rentals, and other expenses. A park visitor survey in 2006 is used to estimate the mix of visitors between day trips and overnight trips and those using campgrounds or hotel/cabins inside or outside the park. The survey also provides estimates of average party sizes, lengths of stay in the area, and primary transportation modes to reach the park.
