The following report is based upon a detailed inventory of the forest vegetation found within the area of High Point Park between Route 23 and the Deckertown Turnpike. This inventory was requested and financed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry, and it was completed during the period May through August 1979. The design and sampling scheme/of the inventory were devised with the objectives of providing an assessment of the general health and vigor of the forest vegetation contained within the park. One of the most prominent objectives of this vegetation analysis was to determine if possible imbalances in various animal (white-tailed deer and beaver) and insect (gypsy moth) populations along with intensive recreational use by humans are having an adverse or destructive influence on the vegetation. However, an effort was made to design the sampling procedures in such a way that the data obtained would be versatile and flexible so tat they would become a valuable source of information for any management decision involving the vegetation contained within the park.
