Data were collected at 30 spatially-balanced random locations at the Seashore using an adaptation of the variable-circular plot (VCP) technique with distance estimation. Sampling activities occurred at the Seashore in April and again in May 2010. 1,122 birds representing 88 species were detected and the European starling was the only non-native species detected; occurring at 13% (4/30) of the sampling locations. Monitoring efforts resulted in the addition of two new species to the Seashore’s official species list: Northern gannet and tufted titmouse. An evaluation of sampling effort relative to the number of species detected indicated that the sample adequately characterized bird diversity, and analyses suggest bird diversity is high at the Seashore. The most widely distributed species detected at the Seashore were boat-tailed grackle, Carolina wren, red-winged blackbird, and laughing gull; all occurring at 37-40% of sampling locations.
