This project, which was conducted between 2004-2006, was intended to fulfill the low elevation riparian avifaunal inventory component of the Chihuahuan Desert Network (CHDN) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program. The project goal was to inventory the avifauna at pre-selected low elevation riparian habitat sites in some of the CHDN park units. The specific objectives of the project were: 1. Apply survey methodologies in spring, summer, and fall seasons in riparian habitat study sites to document species presence, species richness, and relative abundances. 2. Relate the project findings to existing information of the avifauna at each of the sampling areas and update species lists. 3. Provide the baseline data and site evaluations necessary for the development of monitoring programs in the CHDN. Surveys were conducted by Raymond Meyer and David Griffin. Twelve study sites were selected by National Park Service I&M personnel at four of the park units: Carlsbad Caverns National Park and White Sands National Monument in New Mexico; Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Fort Davis National Historic Site in Texas.
