The report is an appraisal of Hurricane Hugo damage to the 20-acre Breeding Bird Census Plot established in 1980 by John Cely. The report was enclosed in a memorandum to Deputy Associate Regional Director of Science and Natural Resources of the National Park Service. The effects of Hurricane Hugo on the 20-acre breeding bird census plot found in Congaree Swamp National Monument. The analysis focused on the amount of trees, both initially living and dead, that were blown down or snapped off by Hurricane Hugo. The report also discusses the type of vegetation that was the most affected by Hurrican Hugo. The impact on some of the local bird species, such as the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, was also discussed in the report. No significant management recommendations were made in this report.
