The thesis examined the possibility ​of the sediment from Hannah Mills Creek and Cedar Point Creek damaging any organisms should the two creeks be reopened. The creeks had been accumulating sediment since being impounded by Heckscher Drive back in the 1920's. The accumulated sediment consisted of heavy metals and organics. The stability of the two creek beds was assessed and the sediment concentration was analyzed. The shear strentght of the surface sediment was also analyzed and compared to the tidal current and waved induced shear stress. Based upon the data gathered, it was estimated that the sediment would flow into the St Johns River if the two creeks were reopened. No data was gathered about the potential effects the sediment would have on the biota of the St Johns River.
