The authors collected, identified, categorized and analyzed the vascular flora of Fort Sumter National Monument to determine if Hurricane Hugo had any effect on the area's vegetation. The vascular flora of Fort Sumter National Monument, South Carolina was identified, catergorized and collected following the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. Of the 73 species collected, eight were non-native to the area, possibly brought in by the hurricane. All of the vegetation was divided into three generalized communities. Each of the communities was analyzed for any possible effects that Hurricane Hugo had on the vegetation.
