Sounds associated with oversnow vehicles (snowmobiles and snowcoaches) are an important mangement concern at Yellowstone National Park. Acoustical standards and thresholds have been defined in park planning documents for the winter use season. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the impact of oversnow vehicles on the natural soundscape. These data were then compared to the impact definition thresholds in 2004 Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park Temporary Winter Use Plans Environmental Assessment. Acoustical data were collected at seven sites in Yellowstone National Park during the winter use season 15 December 2004-13 March 2005.
