Spruce-Fir Forests of the Coast of Maine

Describes fourteen mature coastal spruce-fir forest stands between Kittery and Cutler, Maine and discusses structural and developmental characteristics. Stands are mapped with percentage of spruce and fir; distribution and environmental correlates are discussed. Six study plots are located in Acadia National Park - 5 on Mount Desert Island and one on Ironbound Island. Soil data, and percent cover of vascular plants, lichens, mosses and liverworts are given. Data presentation pools all 14 sites (see Davis 1961, for data by site)
