Studied hydrology in the Penobscot brook watershed. Short term declines in stream acidification were determined to be caused by atmospheric deposition of sea salts. 'We report here on the salt effect mechanism of episodic acidifications in low-order streams in Acadia National Park (ANP), Maine. We believe data from this site provide the first evidence documenting this phenomenon in North America [Heath et al., 1991; Kahl et al., 1985].
