A description of subsurface mass distribution of granitic batholiths. 'The subsurface mass distribution of granitic batholiths in Maine shows a consistent geometry depending upon the depth of emplacement. Granitic plutons emplaced at a depth of about 15 km into high grade metamorphic rocks are thin and plate-like and show small negative Bouguer anomalies, generally less than 10 mgals. In the high grade region the calculated thickness of the Sebago granitic batholith is less than 1 km, the Waldoboro batholith is about 2.5 km, and the calculated thicknesses for plutons in high grade metamorphic terrains in New Hampshire and Maine range from 0.5 to 2.5 km.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
