INSECTS & ARACHNIDS: Stands of Beech diseased in the 1930's and 1940's were resurveyed in 1973-74. Measured tree species, DBH, and crown class from transects through the stands. Each tree was examined for disease with many infected trees found. Results show that fungi and scale are endemic but few trees are dying. As they grow, young trees will be more susceptible to the disease and the stage may be set for another severe outbreak /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
