Impact of acid fog and ozone on coastal red spruce

Jagels R, Carlisle J, Cunningham R, Serreze S, Tsai P. 1989. Impact of acid fog and ozone on coastal red spruce. Water, Air, & Soil Pollution. 48:193-208

Spruce forests on the coast of Maine are intercepting fogs which are more acidic and receive greater nitrate levels than those reported for high elevation sites in Maine. Discusses N2O5 and perhaps ozone generation at forested sites from NOx precursors reacting with biogenic hydrocarbons (terpenes). Notes that fogs with pH below 3.3 occur with greatest frequency at the mid-coast region /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLE AU HAUT/ISLANDS/Mount Desert Rock
