Through cloud and fog, hunting the elusive pH

Jagels R. 1986. Through cloud and fog, hunting the elusive pH. Explorations. 3(1):25-28

General discussion of his research on acid fog and rain along the Maine coast, and montane areas. Notes that Isle au Haut had fog pH values in the 3's and occasionally 2.9. Growth chamber results suggested that the threshold for plant injury from acidic mist occurs at pH levels between 3 - 3.5. Coastal fog was found to be as acidic as cloud fog at the montane sites monitored in New England /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLE AU HAUT
