Notes that recent accumulation of sediment in Newport Cove is related to: 1) lack of terrigenous clastic sediment influx into this area; 2) large population of skeletal invertebrates; 3) summer burial of invertebrates living on exposed boulders; 4) lack of longshore currents; and 5) breakup of shells by strong offshore waves.
