'From the Acadian granites to the Pleistocene Ice Sheets, Mount Desert Island offers a hands-on geoeducation unparalleled in any Northeast classroom or laboratory. The scenic landscapes in and around Acadia National Park reflect the interaction of rocks, ice, and waves in response to tectonic and geomorphic processes. Structural analysis of outcrops on the island reveal its four major histories and provide samples for mineral analysis of rock classification. Samplings of the sedimentary environments show the island's cyclical processes. To further understand the true definitions of standard geological vocabulary, and landforms, students can compare an array of earth science maps to the island's terrain. In addition, the urban environment of Mount Desert Island highlights the economic geology, hydrology, urban geology, and archeology of the island's most recent history.'
