FLORA - LICHEN: Coastal and inland lichen biomonitoring plots, including 5 plots on Isle au Haut, were established to investigate correlation between red spruce health, and acid fog and high ozone concentrations. Percent normal tissue (luxuriance) and lichen species presence (density) were evaluated within 150 cm cylindrical quadrats on 10 tree trunks at each site. Thirty two lichen species were found (not listed). Hypogymnia physodes (L.) Nyl. was the most prevalent species at all sites, and in-land lichen assemblages were significantly less diverse than coastal assemblages /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLE AU HAUT
