Nitrogen as a factor in plant distribution on Mt. Desert Island, Maine
Wherry ET. 1926. Nitrogen as a factor in plant distribution on Mt. Desert Island, Maine. Ecology. 7(2):140-142
Samples of soils were collected from various habitats. Recorded specific acidity, moisture, nitrate, ammonia, and total nitrogen. Noted an inverse relationship between specific acidity and total nitrogen. Thus acid inhibits the activity of nitrogen-fixing organisms. Lists raw data for 28 samples /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Schooner Head Road/Aunt Betty Pond/Flying Mountain/Jordan-Eagle Carry/Cadillac Mountain/Otter Cliff/Bear Brook Hill/Huguenot Head/Eagle Lake/Kebo Mountain/Western Mountain GIS-CATEGORY 3 ; Contains soil sample results for 19 areas on Mount Desert Island
