Report on a computer simulation model of visitor travel on the carriage roads in Acadia National Park. The purpose is to predict travel patterns to use in planning and carrying capacity research. The report includes five major sections: Overview of Carrying Capacity; Overview of Simulation Modeling and Applications to Outdoor Recreation; Visitor Experience and Resource Protection (VERP) Research at Acadia National Park; Methods (data collection, model algorithm and programming, model runs, persons per vehicle, model validity); and Conclusions/Summary 'This study suggests that computer simulation has promise as a tool for recreation research and management.'
