From the introduction: "In October 1979, an automatic visibility monitoring station was installed at Acadia National Park. The station was coupled to a Memodyne cassette data acquisition system that enabled the site to operate continuously, requiring only occasional service visits by park personnel. The purpose of this automatic system was to investigate methods of remote visibility monitoring with automatic teleradiometers, and to define and remedy problems associated with data retrieval from cassette tapes. The visibility site was equipped and serviced by the John Muir Institute for the National Park Service until April, 1983, at which time, management of the site was transferred to Air Resource Specialists, Inc."
