'In 1994, Acadia National Park staff stabilized and revegetated 17 areas throughout the park which had been severely impacted by intense visitor use, had failed to revegetate following construction, or needed to be landscaped to provide screening and improve aesthetics. This was the first year that we used park maintenance and natural resource staff to revegetate areas using naturally growing native plants salvaged from ditches, roadsides, and areas destined for construction.' 'Revegetation goals established in 1992 guided our efforts. These goals are to: 1. comply with NPS policies regarding vegetation management, especially in regard to enhancing use of native species. 2. identify and manage areas within the park needing revegetation to restore site integrity, reduce or prevent visitor impacts, screen development from view, or stabilize soil during and after construction. 3. Reduce routine maintenance by using and integrated approach to manage vegetation in vistas, utility corridors and other developed areas to favor low growing shrubs and forbes, rather than trees. 4. educate the public about the ecologic and economic value of using native plants in landscaping.' This report summarizes 1994 revegetation efforts in Acadia National Park.
