Erwin RM and Korschgen CE. 1979. Coastal Waterbird Colonies: Maine to Virginia, 1977: An Atlas Showing Colony Locations and Species Composition. FWS/OBS-79/08. United States. Fish and Wildlife Service, Biological Services Program

From Preface, 'This report is one of several that presents results of surveys of nesting seabird and wading bird colonies in coastal areas along the U.S. Atlantic, the U.S. Great Lakes, the northern Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.' 'From March to July 1976 and 1977, biologists from the Maine and Massachusetts Cooperative Wildlife Research Units conducted coastal surveys of all seabird and wading bird nesting colonies from the Maine-Canada border to the southern boundary of Virginia. In 10 States, 844 colony sites containing from 1 to 16 species were located. A total of 327,496 nesting pairs of waterbirds was found in habitat ranging from woodland swamps to sandy barrier islands. All colony sites are numbered and located on 7.5-minute quadrangle maps. In a Table following each map, the colony sites are described in terms of location, island and colony size, nest substrate, ownership, nesting species, inventory date, the estimated number of breeding pairs and the inventory method for each species.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLANDS/Baker Island/Bald Porcupine Island/Bar Island/Heron Island/Little Moose Island/Schoodic Island/Sheep Porcupine Island/Drum Island/Egg Rock/Green Island/Green Island Ledge/Ship Island/Trumpet Island/Babbige Island/Babson Island/Bald Island/Barred Islands/Bean Island/Birch Island/Black Island/Buckle Island/Butter Island/Burnt Island/Chato Island/Duck Island/Dumpling Island/Eastern Mark Island/East Torrey Island/Great Spoon Island/Greening Island/Gooseberry Island/Hardwood Island/Hat Island/Heart Island/Hog Island/Johns Island/Jordan Island/Lamp Island/Little Duck Island/Little Babson Island/Little Spoon Island/Little Gott Island/Moose Island/Opechee Island/Orono Island/Pell Island/Pond Island/Preble Island/Round Island/Rolling Island/Scrag Island/Shabby Island/Sheep Island/Spruce Island/The Ledges/The Hub/West Sister Island/West Torrey Island/Sutton Island/
