An Analysis of Eastern White Pine and Blister Rust Control at Acadia National Park

Fowler G. 1971. An Analysis of Eastern White Pine and Blister Rust Control at Acadia National Park

Describes in detail the biology of White Pine Blister Rust. Notes that Ribes eradication is successful in keeping the Blister Rust under control. First observation of the Blister Rust on Mount Desert Island occurred in 1927. In 1928 White Pines were mapped in Acadia National Park (a total of 1085 acres of White Pine stands) and in 1929 Ribes eradication was initiated (by hand pulling). Eradication in the 50's concentrated on the burned area of Mount Desert Island because of Ribes increased growth. Eradication continued until 1970. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/ GIS-CATEGORY 2 ; Flora: Maps areas of White Pine on Mount Desert Island
