'This report presents the results of our preliminary investigation into the potential for surface or ground water contamination that might be created by the Worcester waste disposal operations on Long Pond Road, Southwest Harbor, Maine.' 'Water quality in Long Pond and in wells in Southwest Harbor is generally excellent and has not shown any evidence of contamination from the Worcester site to date. Our recent tests, included in this report, suggest that Harshall Brook surface water is being degraded by the landfill, primarily via a leachate "spring" emerging from the southeastern corner of the landfill. Peripheral ditches to the east and west of the landfill and old dump are relatively unpolluted. The stream entering the southern end of Long Pond may be slightly contaminated from activities in the Worcester site, but this implication is tenuous.
