'The white-tailed deer population on Isle au Haut, Acadia National Park, Maine, has long been regarded as too abundant for the available habitat, both on the park lands which predominate the southern half of the island and on the adjacent private lands.' This study assesses habitat affinities; reports on a browse study conducted to assess food availability and food utilized; evaluates changes in distribution of habitat types; and evaluates management options regarding deer impacted environments. Results indicate deer are distributed throughout Isle au Haut in winter. Gives methods for measuring browse availability, and notes there is less browse available than 15 years ago, and browse pressure has inhibited plant regeneration. Presents an index to utilization of browse species by deer and hare and recommends another assessment of deer habitat in ten years /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLE AU HAUT/
