'With this in mind, this study was begun during the winter of 1972-73 to review and evaluate elements of the Master Plan that dealt with transportation and visitor concentration problems.' 'Among the specific areas of the Master Plan that are discussed in this report are:1) The desirability of establishing some form of mass transportationon the island2) The possible modification of access to the Park Loop Road3) The potential expanded use of bicycles, trails, and carriage paths4) Modification and improvement information services and interpretiveprograms to reduce environmental impact by visitors5) The use of snowmobiles in the ParkIn addition to review of existing information on these questions, significant new information was developed through interviews and questionnaires aimed at establishing better park attendance statistics, visitor profiles, and the environmental impact of people on park natural areas. Becauseof time and manpower limitations, the scope of this report was generally limited to transportation problems centered on the Mount Desert Island sections of Acadia. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
