'The proposed research program is designed to elucidate the causes and sources of elevated 03 episodes in ANP.' 'Previous monitoring of ozone (03) in Acadia National Park (ANP), as well as other parks and forests in Eastern North America (ENA) showed that 03 levels during the summer months frequently exceed the National Ambient Air Quality Standard of 120 parts per billion by volume (ppb), one hourly average concentration. These levels may be injurious to public health and to vegetation and trees. The causes and sources of the elevated 03 levels are poorly understood; a part of it could be transported from upwind metropolitan/industrial areas; another part could be locally produced from transported precursors; the rest could be locally produced from locally emitted precursors.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/ISLA AU HAUT/Chelsea/Cape Elizabeth/
