National Park conditions : a survey of park superintendents : summary of findings

'The overall approach taken in this study was to ask National Park Service superintendents to provide their evaluation of the parks and of efforts to manage them. Specifically, the intent was to: 1) grade the National Park System, 'A' through 'F' in the following seven critical area: natural resources, cultural resources, infrastructure, information quality, law enforcement, workforce and budget issues, and availability of special programs; 2) assess superintendents' perceptions of trends that have occurred in these seven areas over the past five years; 3) indicate critical priority areas for work in the next five years; 4) identify strategies that have been used to deal with budget shortages; 5) identify problems and achievements in managing the national parks; 6) identify the extent to which citizen involvement is currently used in the parks, and the likely trend for use of citizen involvement in the future; and 7) provide a profile of park superintendents. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK/
