Parking Study: Stonington, Maine

'As planning has progressed for the Isle au Haut unit over the past year, the Town of Stonington has expressed concern about the impact of the park on their community, particularly the impact of parking and traffic congestion. None of the management alternatives under consideration call for a significant increase in use although no limits have been set on the number of visitors. Under the current system, visitation is essentially limited by the capacity and frequency of trips of the mail boat which provides access to Isle au Haut. Because of the impact of the park, the National Park Service agreed to investigate the parking situation in Stonington and to identify some possible solutions. This report is a result of that investigation. It is not intended as a comprehensive study of traffic and parking in Stonington but rather as an analysis of the situation and some general suggestions for alleviating the current problems.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLE AU HAUT
