FIELD WORK: 1880 - 1894. Lists 1286 taxa of vascular plants, algae, moss, liverworts and lichens; abundance or rarity of most species and collection localities are given. This is the first major inventory of vegetation of the Mount Desert Island area. Voucher specimens are preserved at the herbarium of the New England Botanical Club at Harvard University. FLORA - LICHEN: Lists 214 lichen species and 59 varieties of 45 genera; some general collection localities and substrates are given. FLORA - LIVERWORTS: Lists 48 species and collection localities. FLORA - MOSS: Lists 166 species and 56 varieties with collection localities and general abundance. FLORA - ALGAE: Lists 125 species of marine algae collected from Seawall, Seal Harbor, Bracy Cove, Somes Sound, Southwest Harbor, Little Cranberry Island, Greening Island, and a few others. Notes roughly 15 species of freshwater algae.
