FIELD WORK: August - October 1985. Evaluates foliage clipped from 294 trees at 20 park locations (established by Treshow in 1984) for damage due to ozone. Approximately 90% of trees sampled exhibited symptoms of ozone injury -- average injury was low and affected less than 5% of needle surface area. Three patterns of injury were attributed to ozone exposure: chlorotic mottle (most common), flecking (associated with chronic exposure) and tipburn (associated with acute injury). Sanchini presents percent of trees affected by each condition and the severity of injury noted. Compares results with Treshow (1984b). Gives needle length and retention on permanent pine plots /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
