FIELD WORK: 8 July 1981, 4 August 1982, 3 October 1983. Three water samples were taken from 9 sites in and around the Worcester Landfill (mapped in Hansen 1980). Water quality analysis included measurements of: pH, temperature, specific conductance, stream discharge, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, chloride, iron, aluminum, zinc and color. Concentrations of unionized ammonia found in the main ditch of the landfill, which flows directly into Marshall Brook, was well above the recommended levels for protection of fresh-water aquatic life. On October 3, 1983, 8 volatile organic compounds were measured at the 9 sites. Results indicated less than 1/ppb for each compound measured, at all sites.
