Description of hiker use of six summits. FIELD WORK: June - September, 1995-1996. Observations and counts of people were made on 44 days for six summits: Beech, Dorr, Gorham, Pemetic, Penobscot, and Sargent. Counted number and direction of hikers arriving and departing from the summits. Also noted behavior, especially incidents of off trail hiking. A total of 2214 hikers were observed on summits.
