'An informal survey was initiated to determine what information is now available on the extent, character and management of old-growth forests on lands of the National Park Service (NPS). In 1988 a questionnaire was distributed to NPS units that possibly contained this community type. The responses of all 58 units have been summarized.' Contents include: foreward; introduction, old-growth forest inventories, objectives of compiling information on NPS old-growth, the concept of old-growth forests; methods; results and discussion, respondents and response, what is old growth?, where is the NPS old growth, how much old growth is there?, what are the old-growth forests like?, what kinds of species inventories exist for the old-growth forests?, species associated with old-growth forests, disturbance and old-growth forests, management of old-growth forests, management/scientific research priorities, research activities in old-growth forests, summary comments. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
