Acadia National Park: Native Plant Revegetation Program: 1993 Report

Gregory L, Connery JH, National Park Service, Acadia National Park. 1994. Acadia National Park: Native Plant Revegetation Program: 1993 Report

Objectives included: 1. Comply with NPS Management Policies whenever possible regarding vegetation management. 2. Identify and manage areas within the park needing revegetation to restore site integrity, reduce or prevent visitor impacts, screen development from view, or stabilize soil during and after construction. 3. Reduce routine maintenance by using an integrated approach to manage vegetation in vistas, utility corridors, and other areas to favor low-growing shrubs and forbs rather than trees. 4. Educate the public about the value of using native plants in home landscaping. A total of 4 revegetation projects were completed: revegetation along the Amphitheater (where herbicides were applied to prevent resprouting), Eagle Lake Bridge along the north slope (included mechanical efforts to eradicate japanese knotweed (Polyganum cuspidatum)), an area of the Seawall Campground, and the south end of Jordan Pond /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/The Amphitheater/Eagle Lake/Seawall Campground/Jordan Pond/
