This report evaluates the purple loosestrife management program in Acadia National Park. Report discusses the justification of the program, goals and objectives, control, monitoring, education, and outreach. Appendices contain background information regarding purple loosestrife management at Acadia, the ANP purple loosestrife action plan, and a preliminary list of non-native vascular plants of concern in Acadia. Specifically, this report addresses the following questions: 1) Has the effort to date achieved the program goals of preventing invasion of wetlands currently free of purple loosestrife and controlling populations of purple loosestrife below ecological impact levels in areas that have been invaded? 2) Given that purple loosestrife is increasing adjacent to park boundaries, are management efforts worthwhile? 3) Currently, the presence of one purple loosestrife plant in a park wetland triggers treatment. Is this level of infestation the appropriate threshold to initiate action? 4) Is the current chemical treatment appropriate? What alternatives exist? 5) Are sampling and monitoring techniques appropriate to measure program objectives? /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
