The purpose of this study is to 'make available the wealth of records which have been accumulating since 1921.' This large group of insects is very familiar to most of us. The order includes the well known house fly, the infamous biting denizens of the Maine countryside and a number of important tree pests, predators and parasites. Large numbers of flies have been encountered in the course of survey activities, but due to time constraints and the complexity of the group as a whole only a relatively small portion have actually been identified. Few have been reared except for some phytophagous species, predators and parasites Records, therefore, refer to adults unless otherwise noted. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
