FIELD WORK: March 1 to June 3, 2000. Objective was to measure the effects of climate change on local ecosystems by conducting a phenological study of selected plant species on a small number of permanent plots on ANP land. Report looks at 4 species, common lilac, quaking aspen, serviceberry or shadbush, and lowbush blueberry. Two sites were marked with permanent stakes at 7 locations: 4 at Schooner Head and 3 at Duck Brook. Events recorded were first bloom, full bloom, leaves size of dime, and leaves size of quarter. Conclusions were that quaking aspen showed a big variation in flowering times between the 2 sites. The other species showed little variation between2 sites for blooming and leaf size.
