The proposal is to conduct a basic assessment of beaver activity to establish a wetland based database which would allow for future comparisons and help inform management decisions. Conducted field wetland surveys in 30 watersheds located partially or entirely in Acadia National Park May-August 1997 for beavers. The bulk of the report consists of resulting maps for each watershed (showing wetland features and beaver dams and lodges) along with narrative for each watershed that includes a 'description of watershed and areas searched', 'wetland and adjacent habitat in the watershed', and '1997 beaver activity sites' (includes narrative on lodges, dams, and active sites; harvested species; and beaver observations. The report also contains a 10+ page summary of historical beaver reports for each watershed. Contains a summary of other wildlife observed during surveys: other wildlife includes birds, frogs, salamanders, snakes, turtles, and mammals. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
